This is BulletJumper! A game inspired by the likes of doodle jump, but instead of simply jumping over platforms, you have a gun!

The design of the game was to mix the concept of a vertical side scroller with the simplicity and replayability of doodle-jump, but to also add to the chaos and challenge by making players think about other factors such as resource management under stress of limited terrain and maneuverability.

In this prototype we focused on the core gameplay mechanics of the game, while planning features to add in the future such as enemies, events, and maybe even narrative.

Really fun game and a creative take on the Doodle Jump genre! You've got a really strong foundation for an addictive game! I'd love to see different types of guns you could get, I feel like a lot could be explored there. I got pretty far up after playing this for a while, but I would've loved to have seen a score at the end for a stronger sense of accomplishment. Also, I think an illustrated background for the game would really enhance the experience.

I think the jumping mechanic of the game was very fun, but it was difficult to figure out what to do and how to get anywhere without instructions. While testing, my group wasn't able to figure out how to progress, so the game may benefit from a instruction screen or tutorial level of some sort.

The game idea is interesting and the mechanics seem interesting as well. In practice it is very irritating though. The direction you move is the opposite of your mouse relative to your character which means it's constantly changing at an increasing rate because the mouse is below the character and the character is falling down. It would be nice if the character fell slower and started higher up so this would be less of a problem.

Very cool take on a platformer. I couldn't quite get it (I'm bad at jumping) but I like how fast-paced the game is. The controls just took a little getting used to! Cool game!

This is an interesting mechanic for a platformer. Although, sometimes I'd get stuck without any bullets.

If the guy jumped just slightly higher it would feel very nice.

Because there weren’t any instructions, I found it difficult to properly play the game and understand the controls. This is definitely a game that would benefit from a brief tutorial or an on-screen guide, especially since the mechanics seem fast-paced and skill-based. The art style looks great — the pixel aesthetic is really strong and gives a clear sense of what the game is going for. I also had trouble jumping high enough to reach platforms, so clarifying the controls or adjusting the jump mechanics might help with playability.

Very cool game and concept. I like that the movement is a lot more controllable than before. I also like the impending auto scrolling screen of doom. It gives off a bit of panic to the player to quickly progress. I think the addition of enemies to disrupt your pathing is great as well.

I think that getting hit should give off some visual effects as it's a bit hard to notice when health is lost. The text in the corner also needs to be a bit bigger and have more contrast as it is kinda hard to see. Maybe a new feature of swinging the gun into feathers as a way to defend yourself could be neat, especially if there's too many birds and not enough lives or bullets to go around?

Overall, great improvements.

One word. Phenomenal.

a good update but i felt it was a bit too hard now, i could barely get to the first platform and only caught one bullet, that may be a skill issue on my part

Rian: The overall idea is super cool, and I feel it has the potential to be extremely addictive and enticing. However, it took me a while to realize the controls, so maybe adding a tutorial would be helpful in the start.

Samantha: I didn't totally understand the game at the start, but once i figured out the mechanics, it was a super cool idea. Although I think it was a tiny bit difficult, especially because of the ammo and when you go sideways, it goes super fast.

The game was tricky to play but once I got used to it, the game became manageable. I really where you can pick up bullets to regain ammo.

Cute graphics!  I couldn't really figure out the mechanics but I'm sure after some tutorial graphics I'll be able to get it :)

edit: i understand the mechanics now!! very fun game actually once I figured out how it actually worked lol.

I liked the mechanics of the game. Took me a minuter two to figure out what was going on but once I got it, it was pretty intuitive to move around the platforms.

i liked how the player doesn't have infinite bullets and they have to collect more bullets throughout the map. i didn't notice it at first, but the character also picks up a gun, which i thought was a cool detail.

very good platformer game with multiple mechanics (jump, move, shoot, collect) impressive use of each and it has a good level of difficulty! Great 2D animation and graphics
